CAA Conference 2009 - Call for original research

The Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) Conference Committee, would like to take this opportunity to invite all professionals and students to submit original research in hearing science, knowledge translation, and innovative clinical practice, for presentation at our 12th annual conference to be held in Toronto, Ontario on October 28-31, 2009.

All CAA members and conference participants have the opportunity to present their research through posters or podium (contributed paper) sessions. Space is limited!

The submissions for the 2009 CAA conference poster and podium sessions will be peer reviewed for acceptance by members of our Scientific Advisory Committee. Student posters can also be entered into the Outstanding Research competition.

Submission Deadline is June 1, 2009

To make a submission for a poster display or podium presentation, send an abstract of 200 words or less addressed to the Conference Committee Members at posters@canadianaudiology.ca by June 1, 2009. Abstracts longer than 200 words will be truncated. Abstracts must include a title, author(s) name and affiliation, and an indication of presentation format (poster or podium). The abstract must also include a contact name with telephone number and email address for receiving information regarding the submission status or to respond to any questions regarding the submission. The desire to have a poster submission entered into the student Outstanding Research competition must also be indicated in the abstract submission. You will be notified as to the status of your submission no later than August 1, 2009.

2009 Poster and Podium Session Information

Poster size: Single paper unit of no more than 180 cm wide and 130 cm high is recommended.

Design elements: The poster must include a title and all authors' names and institutional affiliations. The title heading should be at least at least 4 cm high. The abstract should appear in the top left-hand corner of the poster. Visual elements, simplicity and legibility are encouraged. Backboards and push-pins or velcro will be provided.

Podium presentation: Podium presentations, including question period, should be no longer than 15 minutes each. Power point presentations should be brought to the session on an external memory drive or CD. A lap-top computer will be available for use at the session.

Handouts: It is recommended that poster and podium presenters bring handouts (at least 25 copies are recommended). You may wish to have a sign-up sheet, or distribute business cards to facilitate the distribution of additional information.

Remuneration: Participants accepted into the podium and poster sessions are not eligible for funding.

Outstanding Research competition eligibility: The presenter must:

  1. currently be a student or have completed the presented work while enrolled as a student
  2. be listed as an author of the poster
  3. be present during the competition to accept the award
